| TZEDAKA BOXES: The box illustrated was specially created for the
"Tzedaka"exhibition at the M. Nachon Museum of Italian Jewish Art in Jerusalem.
The exhibition challenged contemporary, non-Itisto cross swords with the greats
of the Italian past. Nathanael chose a design motif from the Italian
collection and through etching and piercing techniques created a box worthy of
the prestige of the museum. While all the other boxes were nice, Nathanael's was
truly Italian. The box was made from mahogany, and has a locked bottom. The top
plate bears the Hebrew quotation from the Talmud which says that charity reigns
above all the other precepts of Judaism. The box is a popular gift for bar and
bat mitzvahs, and instead of the Italian decoration, the child's name can
be written either on brass, silver, or gold plate, with a Jerusalem motif.
The box is also a fine wedding gift, and can carry the couple's monogram, in
Hebrew of course, either with the Jerusalem motif or a motif with a couple
standing together holding up a cloud with a monogram. For either bar mitzvah, bat
mitzvahs or weddings, this is truly a fine gift, and the box comes in many styles
and price ranges to accommodate any budget. Some boxes can even be mounted on the
wall.
